Steel and sky blue stained glass star mandala suncatcher has been handcrafted using steel and sky blue both in Spectrum wavy Waterglass. The piece is quite lively and almost has the appearance that its moving due to the gentle wavy ripple texture of the glass. The very center of the suncatcher is a clear glass gem, also known as a glass glob or nugget. The clear background glass is called glue chip which has a frosted appearance.
This piece measures just under 8 inches diameter, nearly 21cm. The photos are of the same piece taken at different times of the day with various amounts of sunlight behind it.
All of the glass pieces except for the glob have been hand cut and assembled using copper foil and solder. The suncatcher has then been wrapped with lead came, a type of lead framing for strength and stability. Two loops have been soldered to the back with a small amount of chain included for hanging.
